United Arab Emirates Calculator FAQs
Is salary tax-free in the UAE?
Yes. The UAE has no personal income tax. Take-home pay equals gross salary after any voluntary deductions (insurance, savings). End-of-service gratuity (similar to severance) is calculated separately.
How is UAE VAT calculated?
5% VAT applies to most goods and services, introduced 1 January 2018. Add 5% by multiplying the net price by 1.05. To find VAT in a VAT-inclusive AED 105 price, divide by 21 to get the AED 5 VAT portion.
How much should I tip in Dubai restaurants?
10 to 15% is standard at sit-down restaurants. Many restaurants add a 10% service charge plus 5% VAT (often labelled +/+); an extra tip is appreciated but not required when service is included.
Is corporate tax different from personal tax in UAE?
Yes. UAE introduced a 9% federal corporate tax effective June 2023 on business profits above AED 375,000. Personal income from employment remains untaxed.
Do I need to pay social security as an expat in UAE?
No. Social security only applies to UAE national employees (5% employee plus 12.5% employer). Expat workers receive end-of-service gratuity instead, accrued over the period of service.
