Employees can contribute 3%, 4%, 6%, 8%, or 10% of gross pay. Default for new auto-enrolled members is 3%. You can change your rate any time through your provider.
How much does my employer contribute to KiwiSaver?
Employers must contribute at least 3% of your gross salary. Some employers voluntarily offer higher matching rates as an employment benefit.
When can I withdraw my KiwiSaver?
At age 65 (NZ Super age), for your first home deposit (after 3 years membership), or in cases of significant financial hardship or serious illness.
What is the government KiwiSaver contribution?
The government provides a member tax credit of up to $521.43 per year if you contribute at least $1,042.86 annually. This applies to members aged 18-64.
Can I take a KiwiSaver contribution holiday?
Yes. After contributing for 12 months, you can apply for a savings suspension (contribution holiday) of 3 months to 1 year through your KiwiSaver provider.
What happens to my KiwiSaver if I leave NZ?
If you permanently emigrate, you can withdraw most of your KiwiSaver balance after being overseas for at least 1 year. The government contribution portion cannot be withdrawn. Australian citizens returning to Australia can transfer KiwiSaver to an Australian super fund.
