What are the Navy PRT events?

Push-ups (2-minute max reps), curl-ups (2-minute max reps) or plank hold, and a cardio event of your choice: 1.5-mile run, 500-yard swim, 12-minute stationary bike, or 2,000-meter row. Sailors can choose whichever cardio event suits them.

Can I do a plank instead of curl-ups?

Yes. Since 2023, the forearm plank is an approved alternative to curl-ups. Many sailors prefer the plank as it is easier on the back. The plank is scored on hold time with age and gender-specific tables.

What are the Navy PRT scoring categories?

Outstanding (top tier), Excellent, Good, Satisfactory (minimum passing), and Failure. Each category has specific performance standards by age and gender. Achieving Outstanding or Excellent earns positive evaluation marks.

How does the BCA relate to the PRT?

The Body Composition Assessment is conducted before the PRT. Sailors must meet body fat standards (typically 22% male, 33% female, varies by age) to take the PRT. Failing BCA means failing the entire PFA regardless of PRT performance.

First failure results in counseling and a mandatory retest. Multiple failures within a 3-year period can result in administrative separation. Sailors on the FEP (Fitness Enhancement Program) receive additional training and monitoring.
