How it works: The calculator converts between points, percentage, and letter grade by selected grading scale.
Worked Example
Converting Test Scores to Grades
This calculator converts raw test scores (points earned out of total points) into percentage grades and their corresponding letter grades, supporting multiple grading scale systems.
- Standard US grading: A = 90-100%, B = 80-89%, C = 70-79%, D = 60-69%, F = below 60%
- Some schools use plus/minus grades: A+ = 97-100%, A = 93-96%, A- = 90-92%, and so on
- Points-to-percentage conversion: divide points earned by total possible points and multiply by 100
- You can also enter a percentage directly to find the corresponding letter grade on your school grading scale
Different schools and countries use different grading scales. Check your institution specific scale for the most accurate grade conversion.
You can also calculate changes using our Forgetting Curve and Revision Scheduler, Final Grade Calculator, Marks Percentage Calculator or Grade Average Calculator.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this support different grading scales?
Yes. The calculator includes standard US grading (10-point scale), plus/minus grading, and alternative scale options. Select the one that matches your school system.
Can I convert from percentage to letter grade?
Yes. Enter a percentage directly and the calculator will return the corresponding letter grade on the selected grading scale.
What if my teacher uses a custom grading scale?
If your school uses non-standard cutoffs (like 93 for an A instead of 90), the result may differ. Use the closest matching scale option or manually compare to your syllabus.
How do I calculate my percentage from points?
Divide points earned by total possible points, then multiply by 100. For example, 42 out of 50 = (42/50) x 100 = 84%.
