Questions Frequentes

Is the APFT still used?

No. The APFT was officially replaced by the ACFT on October 1, 2022. It is no longer used for record testing in any Army component. Some units may still reference APFT standards informally for training benchmarks.

What were the 3 APFT events?

Push-ups (max reps in 2 minutes), sit-ups (max reps in 2 minutes), and 2-mile run (timed). Scoring tables varied by age group and gender. Maximum 100 points per event, 300 total.

What was a good APFT score?

Above 270 (90+ per event) was considered excellent and earned the Extended Scale badge at many units. 300 (perfect) was achievable by fit soldiers. Average scores were typically 220-250.

Why was the APFT replaced?

The APFT tested only basic endurance and muscular endurance. The ACFT was designed to better assess combat readiness with events testing strength (deadlift), power (throw), agility (sprint-drag-carry), and core stability (plank) alongside push-ups and running.

How does APFT compare to ACFT scoring?

APFT max was 300 (3 events x 100). ACFT max is 600 (6 events x 100). APFT focused on endurance; ACFT adds strength and power. A 300 APFT soldier might score 450-500 on the ACFT depending on deadlift and power throw ability.
