Formula
Each event is converted to an approximate 0 to 100 score based on Army performance bands and then summed to a 600-point composite. Your weakest event limits your overall rating.
United States FAQs
How does the ACFT affect Army promotions?
ACFT scores contribute to promotion points for enlisted soldiers (SGT and SSG boards). A higher ACFT score earns more promotion points. For officers, a passing score is required for school attendance and positive OER support forms.
What happens if I fail the ACFT?
Soldiers who fail have 90 days to retest. Repeated failures can result in administrative actions including relief from leadership positions, flagging (preventing promotion and awards), and potential separation from service.
Can I retake just one event?
No. If you fail any event, you must retake the entire 6-event ACFT. There is no option to retest individual events. This is a change from some initial ACFT pilot programs.
What equipment is needed for the ACFT?
Hex bar and weight plates (MDL), 10-pound medicine ball (SPT), exercise mat (HRP and PLK), sled with 90-pound pull and carry weights (SDC), and a measured 2-mile course (2MR). Most Army installations have dedicated ACFT lanes.
Is the ACFT harder than the APFT?
The ACFT tests a broader range of fitness (strength, power, endurance, agility) compared to the APFT (push-ups, sit-ups, run only). Most soldiers find the deadlift and sprint-drag-carry events challenging if they primarily trained for the APFT.
