Formula
The calculator maps each event into an approximate score band and then sums to a 300 point total.
Worked Example
The Legacy Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT)
- Push-ups: two minutes of standard push-ups, scored by age and gender with a minimum of 60 points to pass
- Sit-ups: two minutes of standard sit-ups using the same scoring criteria
- Two-mile run: timed run scored inversely (faster times earn more points), also requiring a minimum of 60 points
- The APFT has been officially replaced by the ACFT, but many soldiers and units still reference APFT standards for comparison and historical records
While the ACFT is now the official test, this calculator remains useful for soldiers comparing their fitness to historical standards or units still using APFT-style training.
You can also calculate changes using our ACFT Calculator, Army ACFT Calculator, PT Score Calculator or Army Promotion Points Calculator.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this an official APFT score?
No. This is a simplified estimate using approximate scoring bands. Official APFT scoring used age and gender-specific tables published by the Army.
Has the APFT been replaced?
Yes. The Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) officially replaced the APFT. However, many soldiers still use APFT benchmarks for personal training and comparison.
What was a passing APFT score?
A passing score required a minimum of 60 points in each event (180 total out of 300). Scoring below 60 in any single event resulted in a failure.
What was an APFT score of 300?
A perfect 300 required maxing all three events based on age and gender standards. For a male age 17 to 21, this meant 71 push-ups, 78 sit-ups, and a 13:00 two-mile run.
