The Legacy Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT)

The APFT was the Army standard fitness test for decades before being replaced by the ACFT. It consists of three events: push-ups, sit-ups, and a two-mile run, each scored on a 0 to 100 point scale for a 300-point maximum.

  • Push-ups: two minutes of standard push-ups, scored by age and gender with a minimum of 60 points to pass
  • Sit-ups: two minutes of standard sit-ups using the same scoring criteria
  • Two-mile run: timed run scored inversely (faster times earn more points), also requiring a minimum of 60 points
  • The APFT has been officially replaced by the ACFT, but many soldiers and units still reference APFT standards for comparison and historical records
